Supporting Families. Strengthening Communities.
Thrift Society believes practical support can make a meaningful difference when families, seniors, and individuals are facing difficult circumstances.
Through our donation pickup arm, DonateYourStuff.ca, Canadians contribute quality goods that help create value across the broader Thrift Society initiative. A portion of that value helps support family relief efforts and trusted community partners.
Family Relief is one part of the broader Thrift Society initiative, giving us a way to turn the value created through donated goods into additional support for organizations working directly in Canadian communities.

Everyday Contributions Can Create Real Support
A bag of clothing, a set of dishes, school supplies, or other quality household goods can create value in several ways.
Some goods may be shared through community partnerships, while others are sold to help support:
- Canadian jobs in collection, sorting, cleaning, preparation, and resale
- The operation and growth of Thrift Society
- Selected family relief efforts and community programs
- The continued reuse of quality goods
- Reduced waste in Canadian communities
Together, these contributions help power a broader system that creates employment, strengthens communities, supports family relief, and keeps quality goods in circulation.
How the Fund Works
The Family Relief Program allows Thrift Society to provide additional support to charities, frontline organizations and community initiatives at different times throughout the year.
A portion of the value created through Thrift Society is directed toward these efforts. Support can vary depending on what an organization needs and what resources are available at the time.
This may include:
- Funding toward a specific community initiative
- Useful donated goods that match an identified need
- Support for seasonal or special programs
- Other practical resources that can help an organization serve its community
Rather than trying to duplicate the work already being done on the front lines, our goal is to help strengthen it.
Helping Local Families First
The organizations working directly in Canadian communities understand the people they serve and where help is needed most.
That is why our approach is built around working with charities, schools, outreach programs, food programs and other community organizations already doing this work.
Through donated goods, funding and other available resources, Thrift Society can help strengthen their efforts and give them additional tools to support the people they serve.
How We Choose Who to Help
Our Family Relief Program is designed to respond to real needs within the communities we serve.
We look for opportunities to support trusted organizations and community initiatives where the resources we can provide can make a practical difference.
The organizations and initiatives we support may change throughout the year based on current needs, available resources and opportunities to create meaningful local impact.
This keeps the program flexible and allows us to support different community needs as they arise.
A System That Keeps Giving
The Family Relief Program is supported by the larger Thrift Society reuse network.
Through DonateYourStuff.ca, quality goods are collected directly from households. Some donated items may match a need identified by an organization we work with, while others remain in circulation through reuse and resale.
The value created helps support the operation and continued growth of Thrift Society, Canadian employment, and programs such as Family Relief.
As the network grows, so does our ability to collect more donations, work with more organizations and create more opportunities for community impact.
Partner With the Fund
We are looking to build ongoing relationships with a small number of charities and community organizations doing important work in Canadian communities.
One of the ways we can help is by learning what your organization regularly needs.
Through DonateYourStuff.ca, we collect a wide range of quality donated goods directly from households. Many organizations do not have the resources to offer residential donation pickup themselves, so our pickup network can help bridge that gap.
If we know the types of items your organization regularly needs, we can keep those needs in mind as donations come through and set suitable items aside when they become available.
Our Family Relief Program can also provide opportunities to support organizations and community initiatives at different times throughout the year.
If your organization would like to work with Thrift Society, we would love to hear from you.
Powered by Community.
The Family Relief Program is about purpose, not process. A portion of the value created through Thrift Society helps support trusted frontline organizations serving Canadian families and communities.
Every contribution keeps value working here at home and brings us closer to a cleaner, stronger, and more connected country.
