Thrift Society is building a practical reuse model that turns donated goods into ongoing community impact.
Through our donation pickup arm, DonateYourStuff.ca, we make it easier for Canadians to donate quality items they no longer need. Those items are collected, sorted and kept in circulation through a combination of community partnerships, reuse and resale.
Many charities and community organizations need quality donated goods but are not set up to collect them directly from people’s homes. That creates a gap between people who have items to give and organizations that may be able to use them. DonateYourStuff.ca helps bridge that gap by providing the pickup service and bringing more reusable goods into the network.
A Different Model for Community Impact
Once donations are collected, there is no single path they have to follow.
We work with a select group of charities and community organizations to learn what types of items they regularly need. When suitable donations come through, we can set those items aside and help get them where they can be put to good use.
Other items stay in circulation through reuse and resale. The value generated helps pay for pickups, transportation, sorting, storage, processing and Canadian jobs. It also helps support our Family Relief Program and gives us the resources to keep growing the initiative.
